ELAINE  FREEMAN

Elaine Freeman

When I was a child in Kindergarten in New York, I drew a purple iris and my teacher hung it on the wall.

That event seemed to pique my early interest in art and that image remains my guiding star.

Art was a major focus throughout school and eventually I majored in Graphic Art but also studied watercolor and oil as well.
My studies took me to Pratt Institute and Queens College in NY, and I worked as a graphic artist before moving to Ohio with a newly acquired husband.

Raising children curtailed my art career for quite some time but when I moved to Northern California, my interest in returning to my art work was sparked.

Maybe it was the glorious light, or the lush landscape, but painting became a passion.  I studied art at Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa College where I took up pastels for the first time.

I returned to Ohio in 1997 and began studying at CCAD.   I also took many workshops, notably from Judy Carducci, Albert Handell, Doug Dawson, and Alex Powers.   I have also studied with Michael McEwan at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.

I believe the medium is not as important as seeing color, light and spatial relationships, and I believe that the artist exists in all of us.   My purpose is to explore my vision and to awake in the viewer an excitement for the interpretive aspect of art.
